Hi Dave.. we have a Vagabond Tropical (20'trawler) and while it's a different boat than the 20 (sail) I suspect the weight would be similar. Factory spec's on our boat show it at 2,600# + engine + gear. The trailer (twin axel Performance) would weigh somewhere between 800-1,000 lbs. Having pulled a number of boats my best guess would be 4,000 - 4,500 lbs. all up.
I pulled the boat back from Vermont where I purchased it with a full size F-150 with the 4.6 V-8 engine. Frankly I wouldn't want to pull the boat that distance with much less engine. A good 6 would do but I wouldn't consider smaller if you are going any distance or through hilly terrain. I had the engine out of overdrive the whole way & it seemed happy with the load.
The other consideration is braking. My trailer has drum brakes on all 4 wheels but you will need to leave lot's of space between vehicles when towing.
Good luck with your truck,
Al H. Vahabond Tropical "DOLLY"
