"but trying to take the boat out of the water may be a little rough for a 4 cylinder."
-------------
Especially so if that 4-cylinder was a two-wheel drive pickup. You never stated if you were referring to two wheel or four wheel drive.
I did once use an older Ford 6 cylinder two-wheel drive truck to retrieve my Nimble out of the water and haul it home. There was no real problem with it, but I still found myself wishing that I had the lower gear available for getting started at the ramp.
Any decision involving tow vehicles should consider transmission gearing, rear end ratios, brakes and other factors including engine horsepower and torque---not just the latter.
A test drive with tow would be nice, but that is a difficult thing to orchestrate.
