I think Al's point about braking is a very valid. I have towed my 24 from Vermont to Florida & more and my concern has always been stopping and not going. I think some of these lighter vehicles will tow OK but I would be very concerned about braking. Of course getting up a slippery ramp without 4WD can be a real experience once the boat clears the water but that's another issue. I find my 5.4 Ford 4X4 to be very reassuring and the braking on my new truck is much improved over the '98 I had.
