It seems no one has actually measured their Nimble on a certified truck scale. I have and this is what I found. I weighed my 1993 Nimble Kodiak with the inboard Yanmar diesel (Which according to Yanmar weighs 251lbs. dry), water tank & waste tank empty, 9-10 gallons of diesel in the fuel tank. All gear was aboard including ground tackle, sails and spars. The boat on the factory issue Performance tandem galvanized trailer weighed 7,260lbs. I weighed her twice to make sure as I didn't believe it either. I know that Nimble Boats is wildly optimistic about the ease of towing their boats behind the family car but this was ridiculous. Subtracting a trailer weight of 1,000lbs. still leaves a boat weight that is 2,000lbs. more that what the factory claims. As a check I weighed my tow vehicle, a one ton truck which I've weighed before on another scale and that weight matched the earlier weight at 7,580lbs. + - a few lbs.
Bottom line for me is that I wouldn't, in good conscience, advise anyone to tow a Nimble with anything less than a 3/4 ton. As others have noted, it's all about the brakes. The ability to come to a safe, controlled stop is way more important than the ability to get the load moving.
Fair tide and a steady breeze, Nick
