When listening to a discussion about the decision this evening between two lawyers, one for the NRA and one for DC. The DC lawyer said in plain language that a by product of the ruling will be that DC will almost immediately require trigger locks on all handguns that will be registered. Particular noteworthy was that the NRA lawyer said nothing to refute that... so I'm left wondering about your statement.
At the conclusion of this conversation, two other representatives discussed the issue, one from Georgetown Law School and the other I forget. They were discussing the impact of law suites filed by the NRA in other locations such as San Francisco and Chicago. The law professor said it is unclear what will happen in other jurisdictions because states differ from DC in that states have some regulatory powers that DC does not. I took it from his comments that there may have been a reason why DC was chosen for the first effort before the supreme court on the issue.
I bet much will be written to sort this out in the days ahead.
