I can agree with you that something needs done about child safety. We probably disagree on the method though. Our society has changed drastically. I grew up in a time and place where firearms safety was ingrained almost from birth. That is not the case today. It's not a friendly world anymore and there are a lot of first time purchasers. I can't believe I'm putting this in print but I honestly think there should be a safety training class requirement for the first time purchaser of a firearm.
I am a Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator and in my field training is considered more beneficial than punishment. Training helps prevent the accident, punishment only addresses those who willfully refuse to follow that training.
