It's due to the fact that most liberals don't use the word that way. If feminism has been given a black eye because of its fringe, how much more so should conservatism be? Ah, but that hasn't happened because liberals don't have talk show attack dogs to create new meanings for the word "conservative". You may not recognize the careful, systematic destruction of the word "feminist", but I have watched it for decades. To answer your question, it's religious conservatives who want women to stay home to cook and clean, rather than let each woman determine that for herself. It was conservatives who campaigned against the old Equal Rights Amendment. Conservatives are the ones who still work to limit women's access to birth control and education. Noemi
