And conversely, the authoritarian mind sees anyone who opposes a legal ban as therefore approving the behavior. You don't think prostitution should be illegal? Clearly you think it is a good thing! You would be happy if your mother or sister did it.
It's difficult to bridge that gap. Those of us who value personal freedom know that many people will engage in behavior that causes themselves harm. We know that that happens from all sorts of cause, from personal demons with which people struggle to genetic proclivity to just plain stupidity. The argument for personal freedom is always against those who would erect laws for the good of those ruled by those laws.
