(link) (pic) (Francois) America, each community decides how trash will be disposed of from "free", twice-weekly, unlimited pickup, to no trash collection offered at all, requiring each household to take their trash to the local dump on a given day and pay a per-pound fee. It's an "individual" thing, something a Canadian probably wouldn't understand.
