Butane storage advice, please.

Is Butane heavier than air? If so, I prefer not to store it below decks - where do owners store their Potter cook stove gas can? I might fabricate a storage container out of pvc pipe and hang it from my P-19's cockpit handrails. Thanks, Mark L.
