A few years ago, my son gave me a pair of tickets, and my daughter and I took the ride on the O'Brien. We also steamed out the Gate and escorted the arriving tall ships. A beautiful sight on a beautiful day. As I recall there was food and live music too. My stepfather spent most of WWII knocking about the South Pacific (much like "Mr. Roberts") on a Navy Liberty Ship, the USS Cassiopeia, AK-75. He was a cook, so I made it a point to visit the galley on the O'Brien to imagine what his life aboard was like.
