In Response To: Furling a headsail (pic) (Robert Griffin P-19 #1505 Sandbob, Tahoe)

I do have a downhaul that works very well, but I want to be able to shrink my jib. Especially that genoa if I get caught out on the Bay in the afternoon. Both the genoa and working jib have the wire luff, BTW. I do not have a lapper.

I can stick with the downhaul, or install a simple furler that's "all or nothing," but I like the flexibility of CDI, the ability to keep some sail forward to help me point a bit better. With no jib it's hopeless trying to go closer than a short reach. (IMO and short experience, of course.)

I'm of the opinion the smaller the foredeck, the better a furler. -- Westcoaster, HMS 18, Jaunty -- 10/15/08 5:30p.m.
