In Response To: Santa Ana's (Ashley - R23 #639, Pearl, SF Bay)

They are predictable, but their strength is not always understood...and sometimes it blows 40-50, with gusts higher (this storm blew 73 in some areas on the mainland!)The usual anchorages on Catalina become lee shores, and running around to the backside is indicated to wait things out. When I was litle, some marina neighbors lost their boats when winds turned on so fast and so strong that they couldn't get out of the harbor...and both lost their boats, with one skipper breaking his back. If I am at the Island I go home, if I haven't left, I don't go.
