I wonder if this could be your boat, even though the color is different. I've been trying to solve the mystery of your Potter, so I checked Bill's registry for early US Potters in your neighborhood. As of about 5 years ago this boat belonged to Stephen Nestel in Redondo Beach (and maybe still does). It is #160, which makes it about the earliest US Potter still around. (The first one was #151.) The name of the boat was Nancy.
What's especially interesting is that it appears to have a sliding hatch, which was not normal. HMS didn't add a sliding hatch until #300. Yours is the only other first-generation gunter I've heard of with an overhead hatch.
