. . . one can expect that something might happen.
For the record, the troubled Skipper was Paul Gregory, pictured outbound for Clipper Cove, below. Paul is new to Pottering, with just a couple of Wednesday sails in his log.
At lunch I was talking with Paul about some of the finer points pf P-15 sailing that I had learned from the Yachters over my three years at this. Paul seemed to have a good understanding of the areas of concern that many of us share; my sense was that he is a conservative sailor. In spite of these facts, he still managed to get into trouble. I have since reassured him that he could be in no better hands than Steve Potter.
Other stumbles along the way include:
--Mike Swartz's Burgundy Splash decide to cast off from the beach without the crew aboard.
--Dan Phy had motor failure, requiring him to be towed the six miles out the estuary in search of morning winds by Jim Kirwan (Montgomery-15) and Steve Potter. Dan sailed all day with the benefit of his outboard.
--My motor flooded on the return. This left us (Dick Herman) at the mercy of the very light afternoon breezes found in the estuary on our return.
And Lastly, the 19 boat count is the total at the beach in Clipper Cove. Dennis Greenwood departed Grand Street with the Alameda half of the fleet, but turned back near the mouth of the estuary. I propose that we amend the total to 20.
