I was about 15 at the time and sailing with a friend in 30+knot winds on Lake Washington. Our combined weights were less than 250 pounds which is not enough movable ballast to keep a 14 upright in those conditions. My Dad and I had just spent several weeks refinishing the boat. This included the addition of a fancy mast head weather vane, which was ground into the lake bottom as we drifted ashore.
I also knocked the rudder off on my catboat and went ashore at Port Townsend in 2006. I published an article describing this advanture in SCA earlier this year.
