In my initial zeal to start working on Old #2 I forgot to take a picture of the location of the old pad eyes that the two aft pulleys for the main sheet and the cam cleat. I bought new stainless Schaffer Marine Pad Eyes from West Marine to replace the old pitted aluminum ones. Maybe Westy or Derek can give me the approximate location for mounting on their HMS boats. Old #2 came with two stainless steel vents (one pointed forward, one pointed aft. The pad eye would be placed between these and the stainless railing. I thought about hooking up the main sheet, pushing the boom to port and starbord out to the side stay wires to approximate the placment of the main line when stretched out to make sure it does not rub against the stainless aft railing. But, this would probably require about three other people to help approximate this, and I still might screw it up. So before I start marking and drilling I thought I should get others opinions on its location. I will probably use 2 inch stainless pan hed bolts and place a 3/4 inch piece of oak underneath the back of the transom to help provide better support. Place some 5200 poly chalking to help seal the new bolts against leaking.
Would anybody else recommend another way?
Thank you for your ideas and expertise.
