It's sad but true! Many collect photos of every boat they have ever heard was for sale. The problem is that many inexperienced would-be buyers don't really know what questions to ask, and may come across as a tire kicker or a scam.
Mu suggestion is to form a number of photos of your boat into a photo folder that is easy to email and respond to every request for photos. Most will not be serious buyers, but one might be the next owner of your boat.
As stated above, accept cash only, or a money wire transfer to your bank. (talk to your bank about their safeguards with money wire transfers.)No matter how nice the person may appear...don't take a check of any kind! I had dealings with a would be truck buyer a few months ago, who had a check writing machine, printer and computer in his pickup truck! A cashiers check could have been printed with his type equipment. I went to his bank with him and got greenbacks.
I've sold many boats, power and sailboats, and I have never taken someone for a test sail or boat ride! The boat's in my driveway and if they want it...there it is! I will, of course, start and run the motor if they want me to do so. In fact in most cases I want to start the motor to have proof that it was running when they bought the boat.
Good luck,
Bill
