Hello,
I absolutely love how it sails. I only had a chance to go out two times (and the seccond was motoring with my in laws who are visiting us). The first time in our local lake I had moments when I said...I'm so glad I bought this boat! It moves much more agile that what I have heard from other people. While I am not a racer and I try to get the best of whatever boat I have and not comapre myself to other boat models, I can tell you that the Sanibel is not a Dog as you probably noticed. It handles like a big boat somehow.
1- Is very confortable for four (six or more are doable on a quiet daysail) in the cockpit and while the cabin is not a condo, it's significantly more than our P15 . We perfectly fit the customer target profile when it says that a small family of four can do ocasional overnights. My kids are not ready for very long cruises but for weekends and extended weekends, the four can stay very confortable in the cabin. 2- It has a swing keel and ballast in the bottom that gives two benefits: a) is totally beachable (and I am sure I can beach her with my main sail up without risking a knock down), b)when running aground, it is just pulling the pivot board up like on my P15. I'm sure that you can sail this boat in something less than 2 feets. I would not sail upwind in shallow waters since the keel partially up can't prevent leeway but I am sure that I will stay stable in a run or a broad reach while sailing skinny waters.
I have seen your videos Mike and I believe I left a comment or add them to my favorites. You have a beauty! Keep posting videos that we all will enjoy them.
Some boats get a better organized group than others but when the owners organize themselves and share their experiences with others, I think that everybody benefits. I am getting closer to launch a simple website to share our family adventures with all of you in a better format. I haven't had the time to work on it yet. However, I sail with an excellent group of people in the West Coast Trailer Sailing Squadron (FL - West Coast) and there is allways oportunities to get pictures, videos, and written notes.
To John Turpin,
I am looking forward to sailing toghether in fall! I think you will love this boat and that it will allow you doing the Texas 200 with ease (you will not have to avoid the open waters..IMHO).
Best to all, Jose
