There is a sand bar there next to a very shallow cut leading out into the Atlantic - raise your board and your rudder if you try it (carry an extra shear pin). On any weekend, the locals anchor over the bar - boats by the dozens, lots of music, boat horns, dancing on yachts, and a steady stream of empty plastic bottles floating out through the cut. It always amazes me to see people who go to great lengths to get to beautiful places and then foul them. And the strangest thing is that it is usually locals who you would think would be the most protective. Not just a regional thing either. I see the same thing at the beautiful springs near my camp on the Suwannee River in North Florida.
