I am planning on traveling thru the complete Erie Canal- approx 340 miles- approx 34 locks. Your concern about the Welland Canal is correct, the currents in this canal are very strong. You must have three people on the craft to lock thru, and lots of commercial traffic. I have never sailed in my life. Everyone on this forum does sail. But for me to learn to sail safely on my own and develop the 6th sence that you have. My Time frame is to short. If something happens and I have to think about it, that is too late. When doing something like this alone, I don't need a knockdown and am very concerned about safety. If I asked someone to go on this trip and told them I been sailing for two months, I would hope a wise person (non sailer) would tell me no thanks. There are going to be some interesting monents going with the setup I have.
