In Response To: Thanks to everyone who helped (Tommy - Cape Fear)

My boat came with the kickup rudder. Although I like the idea of the kickup rudder, the design of the rope and mechanism for holding the rudder in the down position leaves a lot to be desired. I've had multiple occasions where the rudder has kicked up when I'm sailing at high speeds (for a Potter) because the jam cleat has failed to hold the undersized rope tightly. I'm hoping to work out a solution over the winter.

It sounds like that 1 piece is better than two (kickup) for handling -- Eric, P-19 and Zuma, Austin,TX -- 11/5/09 3:21p.m.
