I had an original p14 rudder casing, with a blade from a Sabot...and made a copy for my second rudder using a sabot leeboard for the blade. The foil shapes are nice, and they kick up. I glassed the upper portions for strength, and angled the gudgeons about 10 degrees so the leeward rudder is vertical at normal heeling angle. It's comforting (to a point) to know that the store-bought rudders have issues as well. I put $$$ hinged cam cleats on which pop out if I strike something, and pulleys to ease the pulling down side friction. Better than the original, but not perfect. In kelpy (Monterey) and grassy (Tomales Bay) areas I have twice the problems. The original rudder is now my cockpit table.
