Hi Steve, Congrats on acquiring a great boat. Captain Howie has given you good advice regarding reef point installation. I would only add that the P 15 is a dinghy. As wind speed increases, the boat needs to be sailed conservatively. We have one deep reef in our performance main (from Chip Buck, Point Sails) and the now standard lapper jib. This combination with the reef is good to about 20kts apparent. Beyond that the boat will become overpowered quickly. On our home water, Lake Michigan, the seas will be at a point where good progress to windward will become more difficult. The boat can be sailed on a close reach under the main alone. Another fact that comes up is that since the boat has no backstay, easing the main will increase the draft of the jib. Just the opposite of what we want to happen. This fact encourages us to reef early! In any strong wind, be sure to have the c/board tied in the down position and the cabin hatch and drop board closed and secured. The P 15 is an amazing boat that will keep you safe when handled properly. Dave
