No more sail draped overboard or boom in the cockpit. For years I used a single line mid boom to mid yard to act as a lazy jack and guide when lowerin the sail. I added reef points myself and found that unless you use a crutch you can't reef properly and the boom is in your way. Last year I installed lazy jacks. Easy to install, easy to use when rigging or derigging if you trailer.Add 2 small padeyes to the upper part of the mast.At the mid point of the boom, attach 2 small nylon rings opposite to each other on a line going around the boom.Do the same thing with 2 small nylon rings about 6-8 inches before the aft end of the boom.Attach 2 lines to the mast pad eyes and straddle the boom to the aft nylon rings.I attached 2 nylon clips to the line, these attach to the rings. At the mid point of the 2 mast lines attach a line and run it vertically to the rings mid boom. I added 2 small nylon clips to capture the 2 rings. Raise your sail and adjust lines for the draft. That is it. After you lower your sail to reef,no boom in the cockpit,no sail draped overboard. When you are finished sailing, after you lower, flake and tie.To derig boat, release 4 clips from rings, tie mast line to mast, remove mast from boom and continue on. Hope this helps Lateen sailers who want to reef(practically seated and with lower CG) Manny Rubin 1976 Aquarius 21(original owner) 1984 P15 Barnegat Bay, N.J.
