The gunter rigs and Mk I's had a 50 sq ft main and a 22 sq ft jib, according to the brochures. They still managed to capsize. I recall a lot of white-knuckle sailing in my 72 sq ft gunter rig before I added reefing.

With the rounded luff and foot area measured, the "75 sq ft" Sunfish sail is closer to 80 sq ft, and the official racing Sunfish sail has about 85 sq ft. My custom Super Porpoise sail (the blue and white one) is 96 sq ft according to the sailmaker. My orange and white lateen sail is an aftermarket Sunfish sail made by Sobstad, probably about 80 sq ft. But the difference in area does not appear great when laid out together with coincident foot and luff.
