In Response To: Antenna height is more important than watts for range (Kruse'n, Mac 22, Washington DC)

I am well aware that antenna height is the most important aspect, I accidentally left my base station on 1w and picked up the Ship-to-shore telephone operator in San Pedro and spoke fine with my wife, I was at Catalina Island some 24 miles away.

But all things being equal in an emergency all stops are off, as much power as you can muster, the best antenna you can get (and adapters cause impedence mismatches that cause additional loss) as high as you can get and dsc.
