I've had no problems with the Lexan

In Response To: polycarbonate windows - good and bad (David Lee)

All the experts agree that polycarbonate (Lexan) scratches more easily than acrylic, but I have had two gray Lexan ports for years now and haven't noticed a problem. They should not be wiped with a dry cloth. Use water or a plastic polish. Glass cleaner may damage plastic.

Polycarbonate is popular for eyeglasses because it is lighter than glass and is virtually unbreakable, thus provides eye protection. Opticians advise wiping polycarbonate lenses only when wet. An antiglare coating is even more easily damaged than the polycarbonate.

Does anybody know if the gray color in polycarbonate is in the plastic or is an external coating? I recently tried to polish away a scratch in some cheap sunglasses of unknown material and only succeeded in removing the color from the spot I polished.
