(pic) (John Madill WWP15 Mackinac Dreamer) Hi Harry, On my Lateen arrangement,rather than reef after the yard is lowered and than raised again,increasing the angle of the boom,I lower the yard. The lazy jacks keep the boom almost at 90' to the mast.With the yard lowered and the boom supporting a reefed sail,I would think that there is better sail control in high wind. Just my experience with the arrangement.It is very comfortable in 20 knot wind and if needed the sail can be rapidly doused while seated ,lowering the CG for safety. Manny
