Keeping the boom level

Actually, if I use the full 4 ft range of my towel rack, I can keep the boom almost horizontal for a very balanced downwind configuration with the reefed sail.

The towel rack boom-to-mast installation is fairly simple, but it requires eliminating the sail rings, so I installed a sailtrack on the boom with slides and shackles in place of the Sunfish sail rings. That allows mounting hardware (towel rack, jiffy reefing, outhaul, lazy jack, etc.) anywhere on the sides of the boom. I still use sail rings or ties for the sail luff-to-yard attachments.
