When i bought a rudder assembly from Idasailor a few years ago i added a tiller. the potter tiller was $99, for another $20 they would varnish it. i opted for the varnish and it's a nice tiller. i had an old O'Day Widgeon with a tiller made from a wheelbarrow handle which you can buy cheaply at a home improvement store. but not much style there!
