Was driveway sailing Saturday and getting the boat ready to go sailing on Sunday. Got everything ready to go and started to lower the mast and had it almost all the way down when it just started falling. It only fell about one foot and nothing was hurt but I couldn't figure out what had happened until I looked up toward the bow and saw the tabernacle laying there. I was suprised to see that all that was holding it to the mast step where 4 small pan head screws about 1 inch long. The threads appear to be full of epoxy and the bottom of the tabernacle had an uneven coat of silicon on it making me think that it has been off before.
I was so disgusted I hooked my fishing boat up to my truck and spent the weekend fishing. I haven't looked at the mast step yet to see what I need to do to reset the tabernacle but I am assuming that whatever threads the screws were set in are no longer there and I thinking that using through bolts would be a better way of attaching the tabernacle to the mast step. I'm just not sure what I will be drilling through if that is how I fix it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
