vang tension

In Response To: Wind and vang (Bob Slatter P18 John Boy)

This past Sunday I had similar conditions, with some chop. I kept the vang (4:1)fairly well tensioned even while beating. My guess is that there may have been a slight bend from something else previously, which weakened the fitting. Just an opinion. I suppose there could be a combination of forces that could exceed the strength of the gooseneck.
