and your not the first person to question how loose it should be. There really is no way to tighten it unless you drill out the rivets that hold the end bracket on the boom and then replace the rivets.

And yes there are a couple sheeves on the top of the mast that would appreciate some lubrication. In addition a shot of sail coat to the slugs and the groove in the mast will make the sail go up and down much easier.
