Which sail do you take down first?...

Report: outside forum guidelines

...on Saturday, I had a great sail, nice brisk wind afforded lots of long reaches and some nice tacking too (despite the motor boats trailing kids in rafts and PWCs all over the place.)

When I was done, I hove to, lashed the tiller and with the jib backed and the boat stalled, I took the jib down first. But the main caught some wind and started to spin her around. No worries, I just released the main and finished things up.

I think I'm going to try pulling the main down first next sail while hove to. That way I think the lashed rudder and backed jib will keep the boat stalled in place a bit longer.

Any thoughts on this?

Best,

Tom V.

When wind is light, I drop jib 1st. If the main spins boat around, no worries -- Rob - P-21 Windance, Glen-L Minuet - Double Nickel -- 7/20/08 4:52p.m.
