I first slow the boat by letting out the main, and turn her into the wind and drop the jib. It is like putting the boat in irons. She will stay into the wind long enough to drop the main. If I drop the main first, she will spin, making it difficult to retrieve the jib without it getting wet. I have not had any problems, even in a stiff wind. Don't turn the rudder to the extreme if she starts to turn, 45 degrees at most. I have also, as suggested, used the motor to keep her into the wind.

When wind is light, I drop jib 1st. If the main spins boat around, no worries -- Rob - P-21 Windance, Glen-L Minuet - Double Nickel -- 7/20/08 4:52p.m.
