The first picture shows the holes filled with epoxy.
Here are the holes re-drilled and the gudgeons painted. Be sure to use a drill press to get perfectly perpendicular holes.
The final picture shows a gudgeon fit on a pintle.
It helps to apply a nylon washer (you can get these at hardware stores) over each pintle for the gudgeons to both rest and pivot upon. Milk jug material is an alternative to use for the washers. Add additional washers as necessary so that both pintles equally share the dead weight of the rudder (...Tom added a few to the top pintle - but this may vary from boat to boat). Apply a thin smear of Lanacote to the pintles to reduce wear.
