In Response To: Window unit AC on P23, how to reduce rudder slop (pic) (Jeff T., P23, Galileo)

I bought a freestanding A/C unit that can roll around in the cabin, or be stashed under the cockpit while sailing. It puts out 9000 BTU, but feels more like 4,000 BTU's since it struggles to keep the boat cool when its 98 degrees outside. It has a flex hose, and I cut a new companionway hatch board with a mating hole in it. I just plug the hose in the door and turn the unit on. Sinces its on wheels I can roll it up forward and let it blow into the V berth, or roll it into the head and let it blow back into the galley/settee area. The water is vaporized in the exhaust air, so I don't have to worry about dripping. Its not fully perfect since it has one issue I've yet to resolve, and most likely the reason the 9000 btu feels like 4000 btu. I pulls air from inside then blows cold air into the cabin AND hot air outside, but in the process creates negative pressure inside since it blows out more air then it blows in. This means there is a draft created pulling Hot air in at any opening, like the roof hatches and companion way. This greatly reduces the efficiency, but not so much that it doesn't cool. On a typical 98 degree day, in the Hot Sun, I can keep the cabin about 76-78 degrees if I run the unit on high, but you can feel the hot air coming in around the sun roof. Have not figured a way to fix this yet, but I'm working on it.
