Mine were installed by the PO under the sink. This seems to work well. I would suggest looking into installing the depth sounder without drilling a hole. I am told that the transducer works well through the non-cored portion of the hull. Any time you can avoid poking holes below the waterline, that is a good thing. As for the speedo, again you could avoid poking holes by using a gps. They are not susceptible to interference by algae and crud on impellers and always give speed over the ground.
