In Response To: Which sail do you take down first?... (pic) (Tom V. P18 #377, "Kestrel",NJ)

kind of depends on whether I am motoring or am "heaved to". If heaving to, drop the main first - since it shouldn't be doing any work, anyway.

Last weekend, while motoring, I furled the jib and then flaked the main as the other folks who have responded, here.

In either case, get the engine running first.

When wind is light, I drop jib 1st. If the main spins boat around, no worries -- Rob - P-21 Windance, Glen-L Minuet - Double Nickel -- 7/20/08 4:52p.m.
