Looks like Barb added to our investment property inventory this morning. Dirt is dirt cheap in Manhattan, so she spent a pittance (embarrassing little) for property a stones throw from Tuttle Creek Lake. By her reckoning, the second story of a house would have a very nice lake view. She let a second lot we thought about buying go to a nice guy who had helped Barb learn the ins and outs of the auction process, because he really, really wanted that lot. That 90' by 135' lot sold for all of $1250.
Now she's off to look at a 950 sq. ft. house for sale, not far from Kansas State U, listed at $42K. Eeee gads. You can't buy a postage stamp sized piece of bare land in Ashland for under $120K, or a 500 sq. ft. shack for under $300K, so we have to be careful not to overestimate the market value.
She also met, on her first day there, a little old lady who has lived in Manhattan forever. She took Barb under her wing and showed her around - including showing buildings on the KSU campus that are named after her father, and another named after her brother. Turns out this family is really plugged in to the city, and 85 members of their family have graduated from KSU! She also met, by chance again, an attorney who just so happened to be the guy who was in charge of making sure the auction goes on legal-like, and he took time to give her some hints of what to look at and what to avoid.
I swear, that gal leads a charmed life, especially when visiting small towns like where she came from. Can't wait for her to email pics of our new acquisition (plural, if it come to that).
