Jerry, You are correct on both. The whole unit attaches with four 1/4" Wellnuts through the seat area. The bottom of the table is 3/4" plywood for strength. 1/2" probably would have worked fine after it was all glued up. It's flat enough and open on the other side to allow drilling of holes, and if I ever remove, the cushion can be put back. I store sails and other stuff behind the stand. The microwave pivot post is welded to a boxed frame that is bolted to the wood inside. The microwave is attached to the shelf from the bottom. I also added 12volts to the unit for a power jack and red map lighting on the bottom of the shelf. Here's a pix of the unit while I was building it. You can kind of see how it's put together. The microwave will pivot all the way around in front of the companionway to allow access to the storage behind.
