and yes, that happened with me once in Hungary, although it was only like 4-5 hours racing, not 12. We were about 10 boat lengths from the line when they closed it. This time, when the wind finally filled in, I knew that our ETA will be very very close to the limit (thanks to the GPS). Basically the question was whether the last leg, crossing the river, will be upwind or a close reach. If we had to tack, we would not have made it. Luckily the wind shifted enough by then that it was just a close reach.
