This is a sailrite kit, so they have done the major thinking for me in laying out the pattern. I have several books on sailmaking that goes into the technology of builting in the curves that make the airfoil shapes of a sail. The seam technique is called broadseaming. The actual sewing is not difficult, but learning how much curve to build in and in what portions of the sail is the crux of the matter. I have the book The Sailmakers Apprentice, and a series written by Jim Gran of Sailrite - one each for Mainsails, Jibs, Genoas, stormsails and staysails. It also has a small booklet on math for sailmakers. I am working toward gaining enough understanding that I could design and lay out a proper sail myself.
