Disp of P18 vs P165

I'm still looking for a boat and these 2 are tops on my list. I like the smaller size and fixed keel of the 165 but I'm concerned about how light it is. The 165 is only one foot shorter than the P18 (which is actually 17.5') but it carries 100 pounds less ballast and is overall 350 pounds lighter. Also, they both carry the same sail area. Sounds like the 165 is under-built and over-canvased. Am I missing something here? Can anyone explain why this is OK? Thanks. Chet
