In Response To: Disp of P18 vs P165 (Chet)

The P165 is very stable in a good wind if that is your concern. I have been out in 20 knot winds with little concern; you can always reef and drop the jib. The 165 has a flat aft and fairly wide beam which gives it good form stability. My 14 year old son and I have been out numerous times with winds 15k and seas near 2 feet without problems. Part of the lighter weight is that the P165 has no overhangs, and is only 2 inches or so shorter on the waterline than the P18. Also the P165 has very low freeboard, reducing the weight. A main reason for buying the P165 was the reduced weight for towing on the trailer, I have a small Volvo. Lastly, set up from driveway to water is about 1/2 hour, which is not bad. Good luck in your search, in my opinion both boats are fine consideration.
