P18 #377, "Kestrel", NJ Date: 5/8/09 4:56p.m. Report: outside forum guidelines In Response To: Disp of P18 vs P165 (Chet) ...buy a honkin' big genny and a mainsail with extra leech for the P18 if you want more sail area A P18 has been described as a "little big boat" where a P165 as a "big little boat". One difference is the backstay. A P18 has one, a P165 does not. But you can flip that distinction on it's head. For example: Keels--a P165 has one, the 18 has a shoal-draft keel (drawing 18") and a CB (down draws about 3.5'). Frankly, either would probably do you just fine for lake or bay sailing.
