So last season we noticed that there was a bit of a leak at the port window. I figured that we would just caulk around the edge and hope for the best. I got some Boatlife Silicon Rubber sealant for the task, and off we went.
I went to work on a chainplate reseal job, while the Admiral was charged with getting the old sealant from around the window. I mentioned that nobody on the board had been able to get one of these windows off in one piece, so we would just kind of patch it together; get a bead of sealant around the edge and "get 'er done".
I could almost hear the "Oh Yeah?!?!" when I said that she probably couldn't get the window off. So after about a half an hour, she said "HA!" and got the plexiglass off. In one piece. Humpf. But very cool. So now we spend a quality couple of hours carefully removing the original sealant. It finally looked like this:
Funny how small the window is on the inside compared to the outside. I filled the old screw holes with some epoxy, let them set up for the night, drilled some shank clearance holes for the retaining screws, then got the window on the next day. Here is the final job:
It was a great deal of work. I sure hope it doesn't leak for a while....
