(nm) (Butch Erny) Stock P-23 has a PHRF of about 230. Unfortunately, PHRF does not tell all about a boat's performance (not just speed) under real conditions. Agreed, that on 40 mile beam reach waterline length will prevail among displacement hull boats. But who does that in a 23 foot boat? With a few exceptions, we are able to routinely match other boats with 200 PHRF during races. Once in a while we nail the big boats. See photo with 37.5' Hunter Legend (PHRF 111) and 36' Catalina (PHRF 138) on our stern at the finish. We were in the same fleet as the other non-spins dropped out due to high winds, causing our P-23 was moved into the big boat fleet. We came in second out of six entries to a Saber 36. Winds were never less than 18 knots.
