It's a racing yacht after all. You just need a well trained crew, and a good helmsman. BTW, modern race boats have similar running backstays and they do the same. When they do an accidental jibe, the main hangs up on the running backstay, and the boat is knocked over on its side. Then, if the mast is still in one piece, the crew sorts out everything, boat rights itself, and they sail on.
